Surcharge: The Honest ATM Playbook

A Letter From a Friend

Before you read another page, I want you to know what this book is not.

It is not a hype reel. There are no Lamborghinis on the cover. No screenshots of imaginary Stripe balances. No promises that you will be sipping coconut water on a beach in six months because you stuffed a machine with twenties.

What this book is, is the conversation I would have with you across a kitchen table at midnight if you asked me, with a real edge in your voice, whether you should put your money into ATMs. The way a friend would tell you. The honest way.

Here is what I know to be true. The ATM business is a real business. It pays real money. There are people who built quiet little routes that throw off three, five, even ten thousand dollars a month without anyone in their lives knowing what they actually do for a living. There are also people who bought a used machine off Facebook Marketplace, slapped it in their cousin's barbershop, and lost their shirt because the numbers never worked. Both stories are real. Both are common. The difference between them is not luck. The difference is whether they knew what they were doing before they wrote a check.

That is what this book is for. To make sure you are the first person, not the second.

I have written it in plain words. No jargon if I can help it. Where I use a term you need to know, I will tell you what it means. Where I use a number, I will tell you where it comes from. At the end of the book there is a list of links so you can verify any claim I make. I want you to check me. Trust is earned by being checkable.

I have also included tools. A calculator that lets you plug your own numbers in. A qualifying questionnaire to figure out if this business is even for you. A location scorecard. A merchant pitch. Sample contract language. A 30, 60, and 90 day plan. The point is that you finish the last chapter with a working blueprint, not just a head full of ideas.

If after reading this book you decide the ATM business is not for you, I will count that as a win. Walking away from a bad fit with your money still in your pocket is a better outcome than charging into something you will quit in four months.

If you decide it is for you, then welcome. You are about to enter one of the quieter and more durable cash-flow games still standing in 2026. Let me show you how it really works.
